Civil Division

The Prosecuting Attorney serves as the legal adviser for county and township officers, boards, commissions, as well as several other tax-supported county entities. The Civil Division's General Unit:

  • Provides day-to-day legal advice
  • Drafts and prepares legal documents
  • Negotiates agreements
  • Advises boards and officials
  • Represents our clients in civil litigation matters

The Civil Division's Tax Unit represents the Shelby County Auditor and the Shelby County Treasurer in all matters relating to the collection of past due real estate taxes, personal property taxes, and Board of Tax Appeal cases. It also initiates foreclosure proceedings against delinquent taxpayers.

Prosecuting Attorney Tim Sell is currently responsible for the General and Tax Units of the Civil Division.
