Biography

William "Bill" R. Zimmerman, Jr., is proud to serve as the Chief Shelby County Prosecuting Attorney for Shelby County, elected to begin his first term in November 2024. The duties handled by the Shelby County Prosecutor include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining which cases will be brought before the Grand Jury
  • The representation of the State of Ohio in the all felony cases
  • The handling of felony preliminary hearings at the municipal court
  • The handling of all misdemeanor cases which occur in the villages of Shelby County
  • The handling of various civil and collection matters for all county agencies and townships in Shelby County

A lifetime resident of Shelby County, Bill is a well-versed trial attorney, having gained his experience as a former assistant public defender and private criminal defense attorney in Shelby County, currently serving as the Shelby County Law Librarian.

Bill graduated from Lehman High School in 1997 and is a graduate of Ball State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 2001. While in attendance, he also minored in business and theatre. Bill attended Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law and received his Juris Doctor degree in 2004. Bill was admitted to the Ohio Bar in May 2005. He is also a member and managing partner of the law firm of Hegemann and Zimmerman, Company, L.P.A. His practice focuses primarily on domestic relations, guardianship, custody, social security disability appeals, estate and probate planning, and general civil litigation.

Community & Family

Bill is an active member of the Shelby County community, currently serving on the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities Board. Bill formerly served on the Holy Angels School Board, Holy Angels Parish Council, the Lehman High School Alumni Association Board, Raise the Roof for the Arts Board (Past President), the Gateway Arts Council and the Sidney Visitors Bureau Board. Bill is currently serving as the Offensive Coordinator for the Lehman Cavaliers Football Team and was a former Assistant Coach for the Anna Rockets Varsity Football Team.

Other current involvements include serving as the Executive Director of the 11th Hour Theatre Company and he also is the Director for the musical at Lehman High School each year. In 2012, Bill received the Geraldine B. Nelson Advocacy Award given by the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services for his advocacy in the mental health system. Bill and his wife, Tricia, reside in Sidney with their 3 daughters.
