Background Checks

Fingerprints Cards – Discontinued Due to COVID-19

Fingerprint cards are done only on Wednesdays and Thursdays (see times below). The fee is $30 and you must show proof of identify with a state-issued photo identification. Correct change is expected.

Background WebChecks – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office provides background histories using the Ohio BCI/FBI Webcheck service.

Due to the COVID-19 Situation the following conditions will be used.


  • All completed background forms need to be faxed to 937-498-8832 or emailed to before your appointment. We will not accept forms at the window.
  • An appointment will be scheduled M-F 12:30-3:30. Backgrounds will NOT be completed without an appt. 
  • All background checks will have to paid via credit card. BCI checks are $35, FBI are $30

NOTE: There is a 3% fee automatically accessed by the machine. 

  • Credit card receipts will be emailed to you or your employer. 

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we take extra precautions for your safety as well as the staff at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Local Background Checks – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will provide background records from our agency only. This is not a complete check of all county systems, nor a statewide check. This is documentation from our systems only. The fee is $3.00.

NOTE: To speed up the WebCheck process, please download and print the WebCheck Request Form, complete it and bring it with you to the Sheriff’s Office.

Appointments are every 20 minutes from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM Please email to schedule your appointment.

Notice: Please bring a state issued photo ID and know which type of Webcheck you require. Please have exact cash ready in the form of cash, cashier’s check, or money order. Results can NOT be faxed and it will be your responsibility to provide a physical address to mail the results. No exceptions.
