Welcome to the Shelby County Juvenile Court
The Juvenile Court is a division of the Common Pleas Court of Shelby County. It is our mission to protect society by correcting children who break the law, protect children from abuse and neglect and preserve and strengthen families. We are committed to fulfilling this mission by establishing and maintaining effective programs and by collaborating with local social service agencies to create new programs and expand existing programs that serve the needs of our youth and their families.
Biography of Honorable Jeffrey J. Beigel
Shelby County voters elected Judge Jeffrey J. Beigel to the Shelby County Probate and Juvenile Court following his appointment by the Ohio Governor. He also serves on the Ohio Judicial Conference’s Juvenile and Probate Law & Procedure Committees and the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Commission on Technology and the Courts.
He earned his Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law and a Masters of Business Administration from The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business. He received his undergraduate education from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
Judge Beigel has over 20 years of public service including serving as Magistrate and as an Assistant Prosecutor handling felony hearings, juvenile delinquencies, neglect, abuse and dependency matters and the county’s civil, governmental, employment, township and appellate matters. For decades he served as Solicitor for a number of local villages.
For over 30 years he maintained a well respected private legal practice handling estate planning, trusts, probate, elder law, adoptions, guardianships, wrongful death, personal injury, family, custody, divorce, juvenile, criminal defense, business, commercial, real estate, title insurance and significant litigation matters. Over the years he has been actively involved, on a pro bono basis, with many local non-profit community organizations.
His professional background makes him uniquely qualified to handle the matters that come before the Shelby County Probate and Juvenile Court.
Judge Beigel and his wife Lorie are natives of Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio. Lorie teaches music at Holy Angels Catholic School, and their two daughters recently graduated from The Ohio State University.
