Shelby County was originally part of Miami County, Ohio. In 1818 it became a separate entity. The records in our office date back to that time.

The documents which may be found include deeds, mortgages, leases, easements, surveys, rights of way, and various other instruments which pertain to the acquisition and holding of land titles.

In addition to these, there may be found various liens which may affect one's property. These would include liens filed by the Internal Revenue Service, Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, Federal Judgment Liens, and Mechanics Liens filed by contractors.

You will also find powers of attorney and military discharges filed with our office.

Our records are on computer from July 1, 1989 to date. At the present time, they may not be accessed by Internet.

I have a staff of four deputies: Charlene Tucker, Jayne Terry, Sharon Kerber, & Annette Lochard, who are available to help you with your research. They will show you how the files work and answer any of those questions which you may have.

I am sorry, but due to the time involved in genealogical research, we cannot answer written requests for information. If you care to visit our office, we will be glad to assist you in any way that we can.
